Chapter 1
“I’m home,” Hunter called out to the empty hallway when he got back from work.
He wasn’t surprised when there was no reply since it was well past midnight already. Clarice would be in bed by now.
Hunter wasn’t happy that he had to arrive home this late, but because the upcoming merger conference would be taking place in a few months, it was his job, as Anton’s secretary, to make sure everything would go as planned.
Then again, it wasn’t his job that kept him this late that often either. It had been his own project that kept him occupied. Today, said project had taken a great deal of time, and by the time it ended, the blue sky had turned an orange hue. Since the destination of that project was some distance away from Clarice’s home, by the time he’d arrived back, night had already fallen and the stars were out playing against the black backdrop.
Hunter groped around looking for the light switch, an action he was accustomed to now that he’d lived in Clarice’s house for well over three months. Dropping his suitcase into Clarice’s office, he loosened his tie and went to grab a glass of water to refresh his parched throat, then headed upstairs to check on Clarice.
As predicted, she was sound asleep. Her hair was like a hedgehog, all spiked up and matted to the pillow, her arms were flung about, messing the bed sheets. Her eyes were closed, revealing thick black lashes. Hunter sat on the edge of the bed and gazed at her.
His partner was now five months pregnant. A little bump was prominent around her middle. Despite all this, she looked adorable, cute, and damn right sexy. Which didn’t to his libido any good; an urgent need suddenly swelled up in his manhood, overtaking his brain and making his limbs act on their own.
“My woman. My baby.” He spoke softly while lightly touching the little bump. Then his fingers walked to cup her face. He lightly stroked her hair and caressed her cheek, whispering gentle words of love into her ear. “Clarice, my avocado. I love you.”
Hunter dropped a kiss on Clarice’s lips, a light feathery touch, almost like a soft brush, to quench his thirst. But that thirst somehow transformed into hunger. And that hunger was way too strong for that small kiss to suffice. He needed more. So he kissed her further, sinking in his lips, running his fingers through her hair and cradling her head for support so he could dip his tongue deeper.
At first, Clarice’s tongue didn’t move. It was still, immobile, lifeless. But slowly, through his excellent ministration, it awoke. She started returning his favor. She tasted him, sucked on his tongue, and explored his mouth. In the end, the result far exceeded his expectations. Clarice offered an illicit moan that sent shockwaves straight to his groin.
More. More. A little more.
But Hunter didn’t get that little bit more. He stopped suddenly when Clarice started stirring. And before he knew it, she had her eyes fluttered open, revealing her midnight pupils that had him mesmerized all over again.
“Clarice.” He melted into her, clamping his mouth with hers again. Their tongues brushed, danced, and sang as they entwined.
“Okay, that’s enough,” Clarice puffed through her raspy voice, her lips swollen from his kisses.
Clarice attempted to sit up, but Hunter cradled her, slipping into the sheets beside her instead. He pulled the blanket up and cuddled her close to his chest.
“Sorry, baby, to wake you,” he said, smiling at her like a dork by way of apology. “You’re too delicious to resist.”
“So I’m your food now.” Clarice chuckled, settling herself nicely in his embrace.
He smells amazing, she thought, digging her head in the croak of her partner’s neck. She realized she could never get enough of his scent. Definitely a manly scent, one that had her body quivering in need.
“Why are you always arriving home late?” she asked while her hands played with the collar of his shirt in an effort to distract her mind from jumping him. The image was really bad, what with her big belly and everything.
“There are lots of meetings at the moment, especially with the upcoming merger at Silverton Corporation,” Hunter replied.
“Late into the night like this?” she queried.
“Yes.” He lied.
Hunter hated lying, but there was no way around it. His project must be kept a secret until it was completed, especially from Clarice. He’d been dreaming about this project since he was sure Clarice was the woman in his dreams, his mysterious goddess.
“You should go back to sleep,” he said after a little while. “It’s already past midnight.”
“How can I sleep with you staring at me like that?” she asked, lightly tracing her fingers along the contour of his lips. Somehow, tonight, she just couldn’t stop touching him. When she woke up with Hunter kissing her, she knew she was long gone.
Hunter caught her hand and stilled it.
Are you trying to seduce me, baby? he thought. Because if she were, even on a subconscious level, she was doing a bloody good job. He could feel his blood pulsing through his veins and his loins heating. It didn’t help that his manhood hadn’t even gone down since he first took in her sleeping form. Any more of those fingers on his lips and he’d surely explode. So to stop that insistent throbbing, he deviated his mind by teasing her instead.
“Why can’t I look at you? You’re too sexy when you wake up, all drowsy and heavy lidded like that.”
“Are you saying I have bedroom eyes? Am I really that alluring?”
“Yes, baby,” he said through gritted teeth when those fingers of hers started tracing his lips again. “You have bedroom eyes and are very alluring. And right now, I want you so bad it hurts.”
Hunter surprised Clarice with his attack, burying his face into her hair.
“What? Right now?” Clarice bolted up from his embrace and shot him a questioning look. “Are you seducing me, Hunte
r?”
Hunter shot up too and gave Clarice an accusing stare. “Now who’s seducing who?” He playfully teased her. “From what I can remember, you were the one playing with my lips. That has me turned on. Big time. Now pay for your punishment by letting me kiss you.”
Hunter pulled her back down so abruptly that Clarice ended up sprawling on top of him. Then he attacked her with more kisses.
Clarice exploded into a fit of giggles. She couldn’t help but be played by him. She let him rain kisses after kisses on her until her laughter died down.
“Well, a kiss is fine,” she finally said after catching her breath. She gave him a small peck on his nose and smiled down at him, her teeth showing in a playful smile.
Hunter gritted his teeth and closed his eyes. He almost couldn’t restrain himself when he saw those teeth. God, Clarice and her obsession with teeth. How I love this woman. And by God, those lips, they were his lifeline. He needed those lips like he thirsted for water.
Clarice only giggled when she heard an animalistic sound coming from Hunter’s throat.
Everything’s perfect, she thought. Hunter’s lips hovered just below her own. She loved it in this position, except right now it was so damn uncomfortable because her big belly was in the way.
“Okay, now that’s not enough,” Hunter moaned, wrapping his arms around her, pinning her to him when she struggled to get up. When Clarice refused to back down, he growled, “Why are you squirming? I’m trying to make love to you here.”
“My belly. It’s in the way.”
“Oh, sorry.” Hunter realized his mistake. “Here, you lie down and I’ll get on top.” He was so distracted, trying to make his partner feel comfortable, that when all was said and done, he’d forgotten what they were talking about. “Now, where were we?” he asked. “Something about kissing, wasn’t it?”
Clarice giggled. “Have you gone senile already?”
“No.” Hunter scoffed. “It just shows I’m maturing.” He wrapped his arms around her body, imprisoning her from above. “Now, tell me, baby, what was I talking about?”
“You said you want to make love to me,” Clarice reminded him, giving Hunter a small peck on the tip of his nose. She couldn’t resist it.
“Yes. I thought so. Now. Let’s start again. I want to make love to you,” he said, getting back in the mood and giving Clarice gentle kisses on her nose and cheeks.
“Aren’t you tired, though?” Clarice asked, closing her eyes and taking all his love and devotion. “What with work and everything, now you want to…” She opened her eyes and whispered that sacred word into his ear while returning her fingers to trace along his jawline, feeling the sharp prickling stubble there. “You know?”
“No.” Hunter chuckled when he heard that word. He couldn’t believe his avocado still couldn’t utter the word sex. “All I need is a kiss from you and I’m as strong as a rhinoceros. But are you tired? You work all day, scaling people’s teeth and all that surgery. Your back must be sore.” Hunter started drawing small lazy circles on her back, making Clarice shudder for breath as she felt an electric pulse running through her where his fingers touched her skin. “And your hands,” he whispered huskily into her ear, “they must be sore.”
“No.” Clarice rolled herself up, trying very hard to stop that thundering heartbeat from overriding her body. She knew she was in mortal danger tonight because she was sure to succumb to Hunter’s seduction in no time. Then she showed Hunter her fingers and said, “I do stretches. I don’t want carpal tunnel. Plus, I had a little nap before you arrived. I was waiting for you.”
Hunter laughed and pulled her back down to snuggle against his chest. “Can you hear it? My heart, it’s beating so loud.”
“Yes, it is very loud,” Clarice confirmed, pressing her ear to his chest.
“It’s telling me it misses you today. It’s telling you I want you. It needs you in this lifetime. It’s saying it loves you.”
Clarice only laughed. Hunter dropped his smile and pinched her cheeks.
“Why are you laughing?” He scolded her. And when she didn’t reply, but only continued laughing while swatting his hand away from her cheeks, he got mad. “Why didn’t you reply to it? It’s still pumping, waiting for you to answer to it.”
“Why do you have to ask?” she said, looking into his azure eyes.
“Because my heart wants to know. You never say you love me.”
“Oh, is little Hunter upset again? Is he going to throw another tantrum?” Clarice teased him.
“It’s not funny, Clarice.” He pinched her cheeks again. Now they were turning bright pink and that got his loins burning for her even more.
God, him and the color pink. Add the name Clarice into the sentence, and he wouldn’t get any sleep tonight, what with the number of naughty thoughts running through his mind, the different positions they would be trying.
“Does love need to be expressed through words? Is action not enough?” Clarice asked, twirling his slightly longer hair around her fingers.
“Sometimes, yes, but other times, I need the reassurance. Have I done the right thing? Do you enjoy living with me? Those kinds of things, it’s hard to know if you don’t tell me. Like when I arrive home late, do you worry?”
Clarice was stunned. When did Hunter think about all this? Here she was so preoccupied with the thought of their baby that she didn’t even think about his feelings. Their existence together was like that of a husband and wife. They were happily living together, but had Hunter felt unsure because she’d never voiced her feelings?
The truth was perhaps she was still scared Hunter might leave her one day. It was this insecurity, this constant need of companionship, that had brought her here in the first place. And it was true she’d only given him until their baby was born to prove his faithfulness. But now she had fallen in love with him. So deep that she knew if he were to leave, her heart would shatter and she would never be the same woman again.
So instead of answering honestly, she continued to thread her fingers through his hair and said, “Your hair needs a cut. It’s too long for my liking.”
“Clarice,” Hunter groaned, disappointed that he didn’t receive his answer. At that moment, he was like a little boy begging for a little praise from his teacher. “I don’t want to talk about my hair. I want to talk about your feelings. Do you care for me, worry about me, love me?”
Clarice shook her head at Hunter’s childish behavior, then pulled herself forward. She snuggled herself closer to him, looked into his eyes, then planted a seductive kiss on his lips, hoping that would ease his unsettled feeling, hoping also that what she was about to say would confirm her own feelings.
“If you want to know so much, then I’ll tell you,” she said after she finished giving him a heart-stopping kiss. “I do care about you, Hunter. And I worry about you too. In fact, I worry about you a lot, to the point that sometimes I’m not even thinking straight. Even though sometimes I get so busy and forget you love me, just know I can’t live without you. Hunter, you’re the one for me. So does this answer your question?” She snuggled even closer to him, wrapping her arms around his body, using her own body language to express how much he meant to her and their baby.
Hunter gave a little chuckle, satisfied now with Clarice’s answer. Even though she didn’t specifically say she loved him, he could still wait. And no matter how long she needed, he would wait. In the meantime, he had more important issues to deal with. Like his hard-as-a-rock manhood that needed immediate attention. And his thirst for Clarice’s nectar.
“Then let’s make love,” he suggested, suppressing the urge to take her without her permission. “My hands want to touch you. My lips want to taste you. My eyes want to feast on every inch of your body.”
“Then I give you permission,” Clarice said, welcoming Hunter’s kisses with open arms.
Hunter had no time to think. All he could hear was the sound of his heartbeat convulsing in his chest and his blood pumping throu
gh his veins. His senses by now had heightened by tenfold. He could feel the rustling of the silky bed sheets, her hair teasing his skin, and her luscious crimson lips begging for him to taste them. He was consumed with so much passion it was eating him alive. So he took his fill, grazing on her lips, long and hard, until the need to breathe became overbearing.
Slowly, he undressed her, pulling the lace of her nightdress to reveal her shoulder blade, kissing the delicate porcelain skin, before completely pulling the night dress over her head. Now every inch of her skin was exposed to his eyes. He licked his lips and started dropping kisses along her neck, all the way to her navel, then up again to her breast. Those plump little buds hardened as he licked and tasted them, kneading, rolling, and grazing at them between his teeth until Clarice released a sweet moan into his ears.
He loved it, his Clarice always producing such sweet notes as he played her body like a musical instrument. And he knew tonight there was no holding back.
Chapter 2
Clarice sat with pillows propped up against the bed, confused as to why Hunter had stopped kissing her all of a sudden but also immensely mesmerized by Hunter undressing himself. He was like a male stripper, slowly seducing her by removing one article of clothing at a time. And dear heaven, it made her salivate. Now she felt like a cougar.
How did I end up with a gorgeous guy like Hunter? she thought. Anton was smart, sensible, and good looking, but Hunter, he was a totally different species. He was hot, gorgeous, and so totally a lady’s magnet. How lucky she was to have his sperm—thank you, Max—and now his love. And this was definitely love.
She loved this man and she loved his body. Those taut, rippled abs, those strong arms, that messy blond hair, those kissable lips, and down below, his glorious manhood.
Clarice’s breath shuddered as she lingered on that length. Her cheeks grew hot. Her throat went dry and her lips felt like cracked boards. She poked out her tongue and licked them.
